Rooibos Tea Benefits & FAQs
Do your teas contain caffeine?
All of our teas are naturally caffeine free!
What form is your tea available in?
Our tea is only available in loose-leaf form. We have found that this form in particular brings out the best flavor in the tea and doesn’t force it to compete with the limitations and variations of tea bags.
What’s the best way to prepare Red Rhino Teas?
Our teas are best prepared using a standard drip coffee machine. However, you can also use a French press or other traditional tea steeping methods. They also taste great iced!
What’s special about your RhinoPower Teas?
Our RhinoPower teas are made with a combination of organic rooibos tea, our honey rooibos tea, and hoodia gordonii, which makes up 16 percent of the tea blend. Hoodia gordonii is a natural hunger suppressant, so it adds additional weight-loss benefits.
What is hoodia?
Hoodia is a succulent type plant that grows in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. The particular species of hoodia that works as a hunger suppressant comes specifically from the hoodia gordonii plant.
Why hoodia tea?
By preparing the hoodia in a similar way that we prepare our tea, we are able to get the maximum benefit from the plant through the process of boiling it. This process allows the body to absorb the hoodia more quickly, eliminating weeks of waiting before you see changes in your appetite. Individuals who drink three to five cups of RhinoPower tea a day can, on average, consume up to 1,000 fewer calories per day.
How do you know hoodia works?
The San people — known as the bushmen — of South Africa have been using hoodia as a hunger suppressant for generations. It was particularly useful for them during long travels in the desert without much food or water. In fact, hoodia only grows in the desert regions of South Africa and Namibia and has only recently gained commercial popularity.
What’s so special about lavender?
This purple herb is known for its soothing qualities and has been known to play a significant role in soothing the stomach. If you’re experiencing bloating and less-than-stellar digestion, you might be growing “bad” bacteria in your gut. Luckily, the gut-friendly antioxidant polyphenol in lavender can help you fight it!
Research also has shown that the scent of lavender can lower your heart rate and blood pressure, relaxing you just enough to make you drowsy.

What makes Red Rhino tea so special?
Red Rhino tea is the world’s first, loose-leaf tea designed specifically to be made in a drip coffee maker. All Red Rhino tea are caffeine free, designed specifically for a drip coffee maker (but can be prepared in other ways as well), naturally great tasting and don’t require sweetener, don’t have a bitter aftertaste, and can be left on a heat source all day without burning (unlike coffee). Our tea is made with premium rooibos leaves and therefore contains a very high amount of antioxidants, which are known to help cure the body of many ailments, including immune related problems, allergies, and heart disease.
What is Rooibos tea?
Rooibos is Afrikaans for “red bush,” and the tea only grows in South Africa along the Cederberg Mountains. The leaves of rooibos tea are harvested and laid in the sun to dry, which gives them the red color you see in many of the teas. Rooibos is rich in minerals and antioxidants and provides a large number of health benefits.
Where do your ingredients come from?
Our tea leaves are sourced directly from the Western Cape region of South Africa, where they have grown for centuries and are harvested once a year. Our tea is certified USDA Organic, ECOCERT certified, and ethical and fair trade certified. The leaves used for the tea are hand-picked specifically for Red Rhino Tea. Our premium blends contain more leaf and less stalk to provide you with the best taste experience possible.
What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants help protect healthy cells from damage caused by free radicals. Our tea contains 37 natural antioxidants and the powerful superoxide dismutase enzyme, which has been shown to reduce internal inflammation and lessen the pain associated with conditions such as arthritis since it is one of the body’s primary internal antioxidant defenses.
What are free radicals and what do antioxidants have to do with them?
The byproducts of regular bodily functions or the environment (like smog or cigarette smoke), free radicals are harmful enough that they can damage your DNA. Free radical damage can result in cancer and other diseases. A daily, high intake of antioxidants like those found in Red Rhino rooibos teas can battle damage caused by free radicals.
What are natural flavors?
Some of our teas use natural flavors to achieve their great taste. The natural flavors used are always derived from real ingredients and do not contain artificial or synthetic additives.
Is your tea gluten free?
Yes. All of our rooibos blends are naturally gluten free.
Is your tea kosher?
At this time, we do not have kosher certification.
